Solar energy

Enbridge has a significant solar power ownership portfolio, which can generate electricity with no emissions, no waste production, and no water use.

Enbridge was an early investor in solar energy in Canada, and our footprint has grown across North America in the past decade. We continue to build our solar portfolio with several projects in late-stage development and construction.

Enbridge is currently building the final phase of the 577-MW Fox Squirrel Solar project in Madison County, Ohio, as part of a joint venture with EDF Renewables. Amazon announced it has entered into power purchase agreements for the full generation capacity, which will help contribute to Amazon’s commitment to match all of the electricity used by its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030

Enbridge also announced our plans to build and operate Orange Grove Solar—our first solar project in the Lone Star State—near Corpus Christi, TX. Upon completion in 2025, Orange Grove will provide 130 megawatts (MW) of power to the local grid. Telecom giant AT&T has signed a long-term virtual power purchase agreement with Enbridge for the output of the project. The agreement helps AT&T offset its energy expense and reduce its carbon footprint.

Enbridge has six solar self-power projects, aimed at offsetting the power consumption of our oil and gas transmission operations. The portfolio includes the Lambertville Solar Project (New Jersey), Alberta Solar One project, Heidlersburg Solar (Pennsylvania), Adams Solar (Wisconsin), Portage Solar (Wisconsin) and Flanagan Solar (Illinois).
