Rewarding skill and experience
Enbridge again named a Top Employer for Canadians Over 40
Middle age should not mean middle-of-the-road.
We agree. In fact, we’ve gone out of our way at Enbridge to ensure a workplace culture and conditions that are conducive to our employees aged 40 and older.
It appears these efforts have not gone unnoticed – because, for the third straight year and the seventh time overall, Enbridge has been named a Top Employer for Canadians Over 40. The word came down April 25 from Mediacorp Canada, the group that publishes the Canada’s Top 100 Employers list.
In this case, the award recognizes employers across Canada that outperform their peers in creating special programs, initiatives, and benefits of interest to employees aged 40 and up.
Criteria include: active recruitment of new workers aged 40 and older; human resources policies that recognize previous work experience in calculating vacation entitlement; extension of health coverage and similar benefits after retirement; assisting employees with retirement and succession planning; pension plans with reasonable employer contributions; and creating opportunities for retirees to stay socially connected with former co-workers through organized activities and volunteering.
“First and foremost, we look for people who bring the right skills, experiences, and expertise to help us get the job done,” says Jane Haberbusch, Enbridge’s Vice President of Human Resources.
“If you have the ability to help us achieve our goals and advance our strategy, and if your personal values complement Enbridge’s values, then you’ll likely be a great fit here," she adds. “Age doesn’t factor into the equation.”
Enbridge earned the 2014 Top Employer for Canadians Over 40 award for various initiatives and programs, including:
- Offering extended health benefits coverage to retirees;
- Supporting all workers as they prepare for life after work with retirement planning assistance, phased-in work options, and contributions to a defined benefit or defined contribution pension plan;
- And maintaining a Pensioner’s Committee, a group of retired employees that maintains regular contact with Enbridge alumni while also producing and distributing a monthly newsletter.
