Enbridge plays key role in Michigan celebrations

Who doesn’t like a party or a celebration?

Approximately 87% of people plan to celebrate the Fourth of July this year, 65% of whom will mark the occasion with a picnic, according to a survey commissioned by the National Retail Federation (NRF).

The survey also indicates 32% of celebrants plan to purchase patriotic-themed items.

Whether those items are flags lining a parade route or dotting yards, or the banners, plates, cups, and tablecloths that add to the festiveness of a picnic, they are products made possible in large part from America’s energy network.

That essential network includes Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac.

“For decades, Line 5 safely has supported Michiganders in their everyday routines, as well as their celebrations and traditions,” said Kate Houchard, CMRP, Enbridge area manager for Line 5 in the Great Lakes region.

“The Fourth of July is no exception. The light crude and natural gas liquids transported through Line 5 contribute not only to the creative, fun hats, headbands, and sunglasses people will wear to celebrate, but also the propane that allows them to fire up the grill.”

Since its 1776 inception, the U.S. has emerged as the largest producer of natural gas and oil in the world, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Whether you are grilling with propane or paddling in a kayak for the holiday, energy companies are helping make this holiday celebration possible. From Line 5 alone, there are more than 6,000 products that come from the oil that is carried by Line 5 each day, energy that is transported safely and responsibly every day.

Have a safe, enjoyable Fourth of July!
