‘We chose deactivation in place’
Kelly and her husband Doug have lived on their hobby farm near the Minnesota-Wisconsin border for nearly 20 years. Enbridge pipelines cross their property, and “we use the right-of-way for hiking . . . we use it every single day,” says Kelly. Following Enbridge’s Line 3 replacement, Kelly and Doug chose the deactivation-in-place option for the old Line 3. “There’s an entire process that takes place to prepare the pipe for deactivation,” says Kelly. “We made a decision on what we thought would be best for us, and our property . . . if something were to arise with the deactivated Line 3, I have all the confidence in the world that Enbridge would take care of it.”
