UP State Fair: Celebrating agriculture and community
Since 1928, the Upper Peninsula State Fair has been a highlight on the fall calendar for “Yoopers,” or residents of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula—and its agricultural tradition is “very much alive and well,” notes Ed, a member of the UP State Fair’s Livestock Advisory Committee. Every year, Enbridge participates significantly in the fair’s 4-H Livestock Market—purchasing animals at auction, potentially funding 4-H’er college education funds; and donating the meat at UP food banks to help address food insecurity. “You can see the power of community. It’s really incredible how much support the sponsors have offered the community, to grow this into what it’s become,” says Dave a 4-H volunteer.
