Great Lakes Tunnel contractor ‘excited’ to get project moving
Mackinac Straits Partners, the contractor engaged by Enbridge to build the Great Lakes Tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac, has completed more than 100 tunneling projects worldwide, boring 370-plus miles of tunnel. The Great Lakes Tunnel, currently undergoing a thorough environmental review process, will be bored well beneath the lakebed, housing a new segment of Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline. “We have an international team of professionals who are extremely excited to participate, and bring the latest technology in Tunnel Boring Machines,” says project manager Jordan. Mackinaw Straits Partners will comply with Enbridge’s commitment to hire local and regional labor organizations, and Jordan notes the project will have a positive local economic impact.
