Enbridge employee-fueled campaigns raise US$4.2M (C$5.7M) for chapters in 147 communities across North America

You could say that Enbridge’s United Way fundraising efforts reached new heights in 2024.

Particularly in Houston.

This year, Enbridge employees across North America raised about US$4.2 million (C$5.7 million) for United Way chapters across the continent—in all sorts of ways.

And that includes going “over the edge” during the United Way of Greater Houston’s Rappel for a Reason event.

Enbridge employees including Cynthia Hansen, Executive Vice President and President of our Gas Transmission and Midstream business, elevated their community by rappelling down the side of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites in Houston’s Galleria district on Nov. 8—all 26 stories, using more than 6,000 feet of rope.

With $1,085,914 raised, Enbridge’s workforce delivered our 32nd million-dollar-plus campaign for the Houston community.

Supporting health, opportunity, financial security, resiliency

From Salt Lake City to Schererville, from Montreal to Middletown, from Tuscumbia to Toronto, from Williston to Waltham, from Corpus Christi to Cleveland, 2,025 members of the Enbridge workforce took part in our 2024 United Way campaign, supporting 147 communities across North America.

That US$4.2-million (C$5.7-million) total includes employee and contractor donations, retiree giving, special events, regional donations and Enbridge’s corporate match through our Fueling Futures program.

In a seven-year span dating back to 2018, Enbridge’s employee-fueled United Way campaigns have raised more than US$32.7 million (C$43 million) toward healthy community, youth opportunity, financial security and community resiliency.

“Every year Enbridge team members generously step up to support the United Way and create a safety net that helps support the most vulnerable. This year is no exception, and these phenomenal campaign results will make a positive difference,” says Pete Sheffield, Enbridge’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and Vice President of U.S. External Affairs.

Highlights of our regional 2024 United Way campaigns included:

  • A Dunk Your Leader event in Edmonton that raised $30,000
  • A Days of Caring initiative in Calgary, where employees donated more than 450 hours to organizations supported by the United Way of Calgary and Area that benefited vulnerable children, seniors, Indigenous youth and environmental programs
  • A wide array of more than 50 special events and fundraisers across the Enbridge Gas service area in Ontario
  • A scrap metal recycling drive by our operations employees in Michigan, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Delta County in Escanaba
  • The Black Cat Open golf tournament and second annual Cornhole Tournament in Oklahoma, which raised more than $9,000 for the United Way of Payne County in Stillwater
  • The 15th annual Enbridge Golf Classic, a meat raffle and other special events hosted by our employees in the Midwest Region in support of the Head of the Lakes United Way

A ‘giving spirit’ for worthy causes

Enbridge team members were once again in a giving mood on GivingTuesday, the world’s largest generosity movement.

Thanks to our extra match campaign—a 150% match from Enbridge’s Fueling Futures program—533 Enbridge team members contributed more than US$470,000 (C$636,600) to charities and community non-profits on Dec. 3.

This total included an impressive US$129,950 raised by colleagues at our new U.S. natural gas utilities (Ohio, Utah, North Carolina, Wyoming and Idaho) and Wexpro, in helping Enbridge make an even greater impact on our newest communities this giving season.

“Together,” says Sheffield, “we are driving change and helping to build more resilient, sustainable communities.”
