Enbridge’s U.S. Legal Mentorship Program

The application process to join Enbridge’s inaugural U.S. Legal Group Mentorship Program in Houston for the upcoming 2023-24 school year is now open!

At Enbridge, we understand that in order to build a strong and vibrant company and community, we need to invest in the next generation, including the next generation of lawyers. The objective of the mentorship program is to help build and foster relationships between students and lawyers, creating a legal community where we all feel like we belong. In turn, we hope to bridge connections and inspire law students and lawyers alike to be a part of a legal profession that is reflective of the communities that we serve.

Our vision

To provide a casual and welcoming atmosphere where a group of first-year law students engage with Enbridge lawyers and walk alongside them as they journey through their first year of law school.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for 10 first-year law students (or 1L) attending Houston law schools who show a strong interest and commitment in being an active participant of the mentorship program. In particular, we are looking for students who demonstrate a strong need for mentor and peer support—for example, those students who have experienced adversity and challenges, are first-generation law students, or would otherwise not have access to legal mentors within their existing networks.

Why should you join?

Enbridge has a large Legal Services team of more than 250 legal professionals across Canada and the U.S. working in 15 practice areas. Many of these lawyers come from different backgrounds including private practice law firms, governmental organizations and not-for-profit entities. From our wealth and breadth of legal background experiences, we hope that you will find the support you are looking for to succeed in law school and in your legal career.

Our goal is for you to be well supported by offering both group mentorship and individual one-on-one mentorship. This program is a great opportunity to network with practicing lawyers and connect with students from other law schools.

Structure and commitment

We know that the first year of law school can be demanding, which is why this program offers minimal time commitment and a simple application process.

The program is designed with two components and will take place over one school year (October to April/May):

  1. Group mentorship sessions: Formal groups sessions cover a number of topics to help students plan their law school and career path, network with practicing lawyers and connect with students in their class or from other law schools.
  2. One-on-one mentorship (for those interested): Informal meetings with your assigned lawyer mentor are driven by the mentee’s needs and designed to allow mentees to discuss issues and topics that are important to them. Monthly meetings are recommended, but mentors/mentees can elect to meet at times and intervals that work best for them.
