Aspen Point Program
Return to projectElectric-Driven Compressors
To minimize environmental impacts, Westcoast plans to install new electric-driven compressors at:
- existing Mackie Creek Compressor Station (CS-N5).
- existing Sunset Creek Compressor Station (CS-16).
- the new Wǫchiigii Compressor Station (CS-1B), located approximately 5 km south of Taylor, BC.
Electric-driven compressors have several benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and quieter operation, that supports a cleaner energy future.
Compressor stations are used to move natural gas through a pipeline to maintain its flow and pressure. Over long distances, friction and geographic elevation differences slow the movement of gas and reduce its pressure. A compressor station gives the natural gas pressure a “boost.”
