The environmental efforts of a Michigan not-for-profit organization (NPO) focused on the conservation and restoration of wetlands and related habitats recently received a boost with a grant from Enbridge.

Part of its commitment to sustainability and the environment, Enbridge awarded Michigan Ducks Unlimited a $50,000 Fueling Futures grant.

“Our work with Ducks Unlimited is a fantastic, ongoing conservation-minded partnership,” shared Lauren Brown, Enbridge community engagement advisor who’s based in the Straits area.

“The important work Ducks Unlimited does to restore, conserve, and maintain wetlands is a shared goal with Enbridge, and we look forward to continuing our partnership.”

In Michigan, Ducks Unlimited has approximately 30,000 members who support conservation efforts. Across the country, the national NPO is one of the largest conservation organizations with more than 640,000 members, including nearly 40,000 volunteers.

Focus on wetlands

In response, Michigan Ducks Unlimited expressed its gratitude for Enbridge's support.

“Enbridge’s generous donation will help our efforts to restore critical wetlands at the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge,” remarked Max E. Lehman, state chairman of Michigan Ducks Unlimited. Eric Wegner, Enbridge right-of-way advisor, joined Brown to present a check at the Michigan Ducks Unlimited state convention Jan. 26 in Traverse City, MI. The wetlands conservation work will get underway later this year.

Michigan Ducks Unlimited is a chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Founded in 1937, the near 90-year-old Ducks Unlimited now is the world's largest private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization, working to restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats across North America.
