Log Jack Project on the Bad River
The Bad River Band’s leadership “Log Jack Concept” has been collaboratively developed into a “Log Jack Project” to control erosion at the Meander on the Bad River in Wisconsin.
Enbridge formally submitted the project proposal to the Mashkiiziibii Natural Resource Department (MNRD) for review on Sept. 11, 2024, and to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
While MNRD and the agencies complete their review, Enbridge is proactively starting material resourcing and assembly off-reservation in order to be ready to install the log jacks on-reservation after fish timing restrictions that end in December, but prior to the spring melt.
Erosion at the Meander is most likely to occur during spring snow melt.
The schedule for the Log Jack Project was reviewed with MNRD. Material resourcing and assembly is anticipated to start around Oct. 15, even though MNRD and agency permit decisions will not be issued at this time.
While we understand MNRD staff, the Bad River Tribal Council, and other agencies must authorize the project in order for it to move forward, we will take the risk in order to facilitate the best possible timing, as we continue to work with MNRD and agencies towards Project authorization.
