Restoring Ashland’s ‘jewel of the East End’
The Bohemian Hall in Ashland, WI, built by Czech immigrants in 1913, was once a fixture of community activity, but had sat vacant for some time until local residents recently began a historic renovation. “The artwork is what makes this place so unique. It has so much history,” says Nancy, the Bohemian Hall’s president. Since the hall is operated by a non-profit society, Ashland’s “jewel of the East End” is now a functional, available space for groups that couldn’t otherwise afford hall rental fees. A Fueling Futures grant from Enbridge has helped to fund a number of improvement projects at the hall. “I think it’s fantastic what Enbridge is doing for the community,” says Dixie, the hall’s treasurer.
