Straits of Mackinac florists: ‘We couldn’t run without energy’

Samantha and Alex own and operate St. Ignace in Bloom Greenhouse and Florist at three locations around Michigan’s Straits of Mackinac, creating signature arrangements like large, colorful and fragrant hanging baskets. Their greenhouses are heated by natural gas, they bring in plants by truck, and their operations on Mackinac Island depend on diesel-powered boats. “We couldn’t run without energy,” notes Alex. This husband-and-wife team supports Enbridge’s Great Lakes Tunnel Project for Line 5. “Enbridge cares about the Great Lakes,” says Alex. “It’ll continue providing the fuel we need, while maintaining safety,” adds Samantha.
